My Reflection

My Reflection

Before taking this English reading and writing course I used to think that my writing skills were good enough, but after the first two classes I realized that there were many things to learn in writing.

This course offered not just information on how to write, Mr. Gregory Vrhovnik  our teacher from the United States provided us with many interesting articles to read which I feel gave me many information about my culture that I didn’t know and other subjects also he has an interesting life he likes cycling and going to many off location countries with beautiful views which is inspiring to do.

From what I learned in this course is that I had to pay attention to the formatting of the paragraph, how to correctly point out the main idea’s, how to include citation and quotation. Also it is greatly improving my vocabulary and it made reading lots of articles more interesting and fun.

Now I feel confident because this course is helping me for the future in my work, where I noticed that my supervisor used to write a lot of reports, gather information for the management and summarizing it, which now I truly feel that I can do from studying this course and I’m sure I will learn more things by the end of this course.

Surviving the Desert

Bedouin knew the location of the source of water and knew how to navigate through the desert. It was very hard to live in the desert, people of the UAE had to survive the heat and limited food, which still helps Emiratis today. Bedouins knew how many wells were there, their locations and developed skills to track them. Bedouins would go from well to another, they would dig to find the water and it would be named after the one who found it. A well that dried out a long time ago in Al Habab area is still used today as a landmark for directions. To survive they would kill the camel and drain water from it or drink milk as a replacement of water and carry satchels of water. Bedouins can withstand greater heat and dehydration then most people.

Endangered Birds

In Atlas Mountains of Morocco, tiny chicks are taken care of by workers.
They are endangered North African houbura bustards, a carefully made plan to prevent their extinction. It funded by Abu Dhabi Government to oversee the Moroccan facilities. “The center in Morocco has ambitious plans for the future” (Todovora, 2011). Workers pet them to make them used to human contact for fertilization purpose. In breeding season they process semen sample and match female and male birds. In spring and autumn they release them in a stretch of land unless it’s hunting season to protect the birds. The birds are monitored by scientists for observation and to check the success rate by density in wild life and reproduction rate.
